A medical professional, such as the doctor who gives the diagnoses should be able to offer some help, support and information, and places where you can go to further access these things. Care for the person must be considered, and it may be possible that the person requires some assistance in their own home for a time, and the help of things like memory aids can also help out.

It is also a good idea to start discussing moving into a care home. Further down the line, this may be necessary, as the illness gets more severe it may not be safe for the person to stay in their own home any longer – for example are you looking for care homes in Leicester? Visit with your relative, if possible while they are lucid and before the illness degenerates too far, so that they can ask questions and have as much involvement and control over it as possible.

A person who has dementia can have spells of confusion, and may become distressed or upset, so being with them and offering some calming words of support or holding their hand is a great way that you can help them. You can even do activities with them to help such as puzzles, or music therapy.
