Foods to Try in Cornwall

Cornwall is a favourite holiday destination, and as well as the beautiful beaches and spectacular scenery, it also has lots of famous local foods to enjoy. If you are heading there this summer, try out some of these…

Cornish Pasty – Of course the Cornish pasty needs to be mentioned here, as it is one of the most famous foods to originate in Cornwall and is popular across the whole of the UK, and beyond. Originally made as a convenient food for the workers to eat in the mines, its popularity has endured and it is still a hearty lunch enjoyed by many non-miners today!

Cream Tea – Of course a debate over whether this is a Cornish or Devonshire treat originally still goes on, but whichever county you are in, this is sure to be a real treat. Made with Cornish clotted cream, it is a really decadent afternoon favourite, and if you want to enjoy the experience at home you can order afternoon tea boxes from www.afternoonteabox.com/

Seafood – Being a country that is surrounded by the ocean, Cornwall has a strong seafaring history and because of this you can also find fantastic seafood. From the traditional cod and chips eaten by the beach to shellfish like crabs and mussels and even the famous Stargazy pie, a dish that originated in the fishing village of Mousehole.

Hevva Cake – Another food that comes from the fishing history of Cornwall is Hevva cake. It doesn’t contain any fish, but because it is dense and hearty, it was baked for the fishermen when they arrived back on land after their trips out to sea.
