Many people assume that as we age we stop being physically active and we become more content with the rather sedentary lifestyle most of us lead. This is certainly not the truth and there are many things we can do to keep active and fit into older age and still enjoy a fulfilling, healthy lifestyle. Older adults don’t necessarily need to give up all their past passions and interests, but they need to be realistic about what they can and cannot do, especially in terms of exercise. Whilst older people may prefer to move into single story homes like Residential Park Homes from places like Park Home Life this doesn’t mean that they do not want to stay as active as possible.

It’s important to remember that everyone’s bodily and mental health changes over time and there is no such thing as a ‘one size fits all’ approach to fitness and exercise. Instead it’s much better to accept that we all move differently, change our routines and develop different goals. It may be that you once experienced problems with excess weight but now you find that physical activity is something you enjoy and find challenging. Perhaps the stress of daily life has reduced your social interaction and you feel unable to participate in the same activities that you once found enjoyable and this means that you aren’t as mentally or physically active and could benefit from some extra exercise.

This will ensure both long term health benefits and a good quality of life into older age. Look online and read up on the latest techniques and equipment for exercising which may help you to maintain your current fitness levels and challenge yourself further. It is important to try new things as you discover them and to challenge your mind and body through regular exercises.
